The mission of the Latino Equality Alliance LEA is to promote liberty, equality, and justice for the Latinx lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. LEA is active in community organizing and building support for LGBTQ rights throughout Los Angeles County through a variety of activities including public education, community forums, organized actions, coalition building and leadership development. But homosexuality was still illegal in the state of California at the time, so securing a permit from the city was no easy task.

June is a month of celebration for LGBT Pride, a month where a positive stance against discrimination and violence toward lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people are celebrated across the country. Celebrations include pride parties, picnics, concerts, among others. This month is one where people feel happy to truly be themselves and let the world know that acceptance and love is needed everywhere. I was raised by two lesbian moms, so it was always very important to me to be vocal and open about my family and to do whatever work I could to fight for the rights of the LGBT community and for equal rights for all LGBT people and families.
In , At a time when intersectional politics should be at the center of any kind of political advocacy, we decided to compile a running and not quite exhaustive list of 15 centers, groups, and non-profits around the country whose purpose is to address the specific concerns of the Latinx LGBTQ community, which can sometimes feel overlooked at spaces meant for all who identify as LGBTQ.
